Lavender fields are not something that comes to mind when thinking of Scotland. However, what if we told you there is a magical place an hour from Edinburgh, where one can feel like they’re in the South of France? Scottish Lavender Oils offer an idyllic escape from the city for the day, boasting thousands of the aforementioned aromatic plants.
Scottish Lavender Oils is located in Kinross within Tarhill Farm, and is a local family business with a significant focus on sustainability. The farm’s main purpose is growing lavender, which then gets used for extracting its essential oils used in their own perfume brand, St Andrews Perfurmery.
Tarhill Farm also grows herbs, such as Rosemary, Clary Sage, Mints, and Chamomile which are also used for their essential oils.
What is more, the Scottish Lavender Oils is also open to the public while in full bloom before the harvest, offering a magical wee day out that doesn’t feel like you’re Scotland at all.
Visitors can opt for a daily tour while on the fields, which run every day for only five weeks of the year during the summer months, it is open now until sometime in August, so don’t wait too long.
The opening times are 11am to 5pm on weekdays, and 10am to 5pm on weekends, with a limited number of tours every hour.
Visitors can enter during the normal opening hours after purchasing a pass for £9.99 per adult and £3.99 for a child, and you don’t need to pre-book onto any particular tour.
On top of learning more about lavender, guests will get the chance to explore the wildflower meadow for some extra instagrammble shots, even though the lavender fields are as instagrammble as they get! Moreover, dogs are not allowed to enter the fields.
To purchase entry passes, visitors can do so on the Scottish Lavender Oils website.
