2023 is officially behind us, inviting us to not only reflect on what the previous year taught us, but also to plan ahead. Conde Nast Traveller is doing just that, looking at “what’s coming next in the travel world”. Unsurprisingly, Edinburgh made the list of the best places to go to in the UK and Ireland in 2024.
Conde Nast Traveller is trendsetting next year’s travel plans, looking into the next best destinations for fellow travellers. The magazine said: “At the end of each year, we look ahead to what’s coming next in the travel world as we pick out the top destinations we’d recommend to our fellow globetrotters for the following 12 months.
Our expert contributors nominate the destinations that are on the up right now, because of a flock of hotel openings, perhaps, or murmurings of Michelin arrivals, shiny new museums, or a concerted conservation effort taking root.”
Plus, Edinburgh was not the only Scottish destination that made the rankings. Cairngorms National Park is second on the list, offering vast open spaces, plenty of Munros to climb and wildlife to observe, and is even home to The Secret Scottish Pyramid.
York topped the list, while Spinningfields, Manchester came third. Oxfordshire took fourth place, and Worcestershire came fifth. Isle of Wight is sixth with its cobbled streets and historic houses.
Edinburgh is seventh on the list, with plenty of new openings anticipated for the city this year. The opening of the new luxurious W Hotel was also cited, as well as the city’s “provocative architecture”, the city’s whisky history with plenty of tours and a rich arts and hospitality culture.
Not to mention our beloved Edinburgh Festival Fringe during the month of August, with the details still under wraps for 2024. No wonder Edinburgh is one of the best places to go in 2024!
