Sunflowers are naturally uplifting, bringing an instant burst of joy into any space. Stepping into a massive field of them feels like a cinematic main-character moment, and this August, visitors can act out that dream or capture it on camera at the estate’s annual event.
Running from August 7 through August 23, the Sunflower Trail at Balgone Estate features a vast 14-acre field transformed into an endless sea of yellow sunflowers. After stepping through a colourful entrance door, guests can wander through maze-like paths so expansive that bringing a compass is half-jokingly recommended. The estate has tucked numerous hidden photo ops throughout the trail to ensure perfect shots for social media.
In addition, the winding paths are specially designed to form a sunflower shape when viewed from above, offering incredible aerial views for drone photography. Once visitors have finished exploring, they can harvest their own fresh sunflowers to bring a vibrant touch back home.
Plus, the experience extends far beyond the field itself. Guests can refuel with local street food vendors and pick up fresh goods at the farm shop, while families travelling with children will find plenty to keep little ones entertained, including a farm-themed play area, friendly animals, face painting, and tractors.
How to get tickets for the sunflower trail
Introduced for the 2026 season, the Sunflower Trail at Balgone Estate now offers both adult-only and all-ages evening sessions, along with event space available to rent for activities like yoga classes, wine tastings, and art workshops.
Visitors can also feel good about their outing, as 10% of all sunflower sales directly support Brain Power, an extension of Brain Tumour Research. Once the sunflower season wraps up at the end of August, the estate transitions toward autumn, holding the title for the largest pumpkin patch in Scotland.
