We have now come to an absolute end of an era – Sir Rod Stewart has announced he will not be touring anymore, yet the singer claimed he is not quitting music altogether. Rod Stewart is set to play two Edinburgh shows on July 6 & 7 at the Edinburgh Castle, making it his first Edinburgh performance in 13 years.
Sir Rod Stewart has had a wholesome career: before he went solo, the singer fronted several bands such as The Faces, Long John Baldry and his Hoochie Coochie Men, Steampacket and the Jeff Beck Group. Plus, Stewart’s dad is actually from Leith!
Sir Rod Stewart spoke to Chris Evans on the Virgin Radio show on June 15 saying: “I’m not going to do rock ‘n’ roll tours anymore, so these will be the last few British gigs I do. I’m not retiring though. I couldn’t do that, it’s in my blood.”
The musician is still planning on making music, as the love for his craft never fades, so we should still expect new albums in the future.
He said: “I’m moving on. I’ve made an album with Jools Holland, and it’s a swing album. I’m not retiring, I just want to give the rock ‘n’ roll a rest for a while. Not that I’m tired, physically, of it. It’s just another challenge.”
“I’ve never considered it a job. The only downside to it is when I’m away from all my kids…. and the downtime during the day, which I overcome. I take my railway equipment, my model railway stuff, and I have a project and I build it on the road.”
So, it’s official: Sir Rod Stewart is quitting the Rock’n’Roll lifestyle at the respectable age of 78, and we cannot wait to see his last show in Edinburgh in a few weeks’ time. Let’s make it a send off to remember, the Edinburgh way!
