We love boats and gin, and those two combined make for the extravagant afternoon we’ve been dreaming about. A gin-tasting cruise is officially coming back to Edinburgh this Spring, offering gin lovers the opportunity to sail away on the Union Canal while trying some delicious gins. Summerhall Drinks Lab is starting its open-air Gin Cruises in March starting from Fountainbridge and will continue through the warmer months.
Now, a gin tasting on its own is a delightfully exciting experience but combined with a cruise and the beautiful vistas of the Union Canal, the organisers have hit the jackpot here for the 8th year in a row. Visitors will be able to indulge in a two-hour gin-tasting extravaganza gliding away on the colourful Lochrin Belle canal boat.
Gin enthusiasts will be given the opportunity to sample five Scottish gins both on their own and in mixed drinks and cocktails. What is more, gin connoisseurs will guide guests through each gin, telling the story of each gin and walking them through the combination of all the flavours. The gin hosts and mixologists will also have plenty of fun facts about gin up their sleeves, as well as answer any pressing questions.
Visitors can expect to see speciality gins such as Downpour from North Uist, Mackintosh Old Tom from Angus and local heroes Lind & Lime from Leith.
And those who prefer a snack in between all the gin can also opt for a selection of canapes. The food will also be catered to the person’s dietary requirements, making sure everyone has the best wee day out. The Gin Cruise prices start at £42.50, and you can book your experience here.
But the Gin Cruise is not the only boozy cruise that’s available: a Tiki/Tropical Rum Cruise is also going to be delighting rum lovers from May onwards. Expect the same programme, just with four rums to sample instead.
