Ever noticed people constantly walking a gang of chihuahuas on Princes Street? Well, hidden in plain sight, Edinburgh has a Chihuahua Cafe, filled with the adorable tiny dogs.
Located on Fredrick Street, the café does not accept walk-ins and is bookings only, where dog and cake lovers can get some well-deserved self-care. The spot has nine beautiful chihuahuas ready for cuddles: Ama, Lady Bee, Cleopatra, Elsa, Faery, Gatsby, Hepburn, Duchess and Jasmine. Ama is the main girl, however, as she was the owner’s very first dog for a long time before the café came along.
As world’s first chihuahua café and Scotland’s first dog café, Edinburgh Chihuahua Cafe is a local business owned by two best friends that aims to provide that unconditionally loving best friend to those in need. While humans don’t deserve dogs, dog are still there for us through the ups and downs of life, yet not everyone is in the position to own a dog.
During the 50-minute pre-booked session, guests get the chance to meet and play with all the chihuahuas as the roam freely within the space. No two dogs are the same, so visitors can take the time to get to know each of the little ones individually and discover their colourful personalities.
Each dog also has their own profile and description on the website, so you know what to expect before coming in. For example, Lady Bee is a Scorpio, described as “full of energy and joy”, Hepburn is a Pisces who is “all at once cute and cheeky” and Faery is an “Edinburgh born diva” who is also a Pisces and besties with Hepburn.
So much care and love goes into the dog cafe and the dogs themselves, so supporting local businesses like this has become more important than ever. Edinburgh Chihuahua Cafe always prioritises their animal’s wellbeing, and customer’s are not allowed to bring their own dogs to allow for a consistent environment for the existing doggies.
Once you’re there, expect plenty of cuddles and play time, tea, coffee and cake provided by dog-loving suppliers. You can book a session on the Chihuahua Cafe’s website.
