Edinburghers, rejoice! One of the city’s most picturesque and visited spots is now home to a modern cafe and restaurant, boasting some of the best views of the city.
Cafe Calton is located on top of Calton Hill, and opened its doors on Sunday, June 22. The day-to-night venue is open daily until 9pm, offering the perfect place for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner – all with stellar vistas of Edinburgh. And yes, there is an outdoor terrace fitting up to 40 guests!
Cafe Calton fits 35 guests, offering classic brunch options like Eggs Benedict and a Full Scottish Breakfast, a lunch menu filled with hearty delights like Grilled Chicken Burger and Homemade Pasta of the Day, as well as small plates for the evenings, such as small plates include Steak Tartare and Glazed Mushrooms (which are to die for).
Plus, Cafe Calton is set to host a series of small-scale cultural events, including collaborations with neighbouring institutions like Collective, run clubs, outdoor gatherings and wellbeing events.
What is more, the spot just launched a selection of large plates, such as the Sea Bream with fregola and lemon butter sauce offering a wholesome flavour and texture palette,as well as the Steak Frites with Koffman fries, garlic and parsley butter, providing with an all-round, warm crowd pleaser.
Theatre lovers can also indulge in a new pre-theatre two or three-course set menu starting from October 10, being so close to the Edinburgh Playhouse, served from 5pm to 6:30pm.
Speaking about the new autumn evening menu, Chef Iain Thomson said: “We wanted to design a menu that offers diners a cosy, elevated experience in one of the city’s most unique settings. Autumn and winter are some of the most inspiring times of year to cook in Scotland — the flavours are bold, the ingredients are robust, and there’s a real sense of comfort that comes through in every dish. Whether guests are joining us for a leisurely evening meal or a quick pre-theatre bite, we want them to feel both nourished and inspired by what’s on the plate.”
Cafe Calton is located atop Calton Hill at 38 Calton Hill, Edinburgh EH7 5AA, and is open seven days a week from 08:30am until 9pm. You can book your table here.
