Edinburgh is a world-famous tourist hub, with millions of travellers passing through every year. So, it’s safe to say the Scottish capital has plenty of hotels on offer, and the luxury travel market here is as good as it sounds. Once again, Conde Nast Traveller 2023 Reader’s Choice Awards named the best hotels in the UK, and Edinburgh bagged eight spots out of 35 on the list.
The best hotel in Edinburgh is officially The Balmoral, A Rocco Forte hotel on Princes Street, home to the iconic clock tower that marks the barrier between New Town and Old Town. The hotels not only offer complete five-star luxury but also 4 AA Rosette dining, as well as an urban spa. The Balmoral was named the second-best hotel in the UK, with the Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa, Wiltshire being named the best in the UK.
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian took fifth place on the best hotels in the UK list, located on the opposite side of Princes Street towards the West End. The five-star hotel boasts Victorian style with a modern twist, two restaurants run by chefs Mark Greenaway and Dean Banks, as well as a spa with an indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms.
The fairly new Virgin Hotels Edinburgh on Victoria Street was 13th on the list, and we couldn’t be happier. The hotel boasts tasteful, luxurious decor and is home to Eve, a boutique restaurant with live music, quality food and cocktails. We’d recommend you pay it a visit even if you’re born and bred in Edinburgh!
InterContinental Edinburgh The George, an IHG Hotel came 14th, and it’s one of our best Christmas lights spots every year, located just across from The Dome. Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel took the 16th spot as one of the best hotels in the UK, while Prestonfield House was 18th on the list.
Fingal, a luxury floating hotel on a boat in The Shore in Leith was 23rd, and The Witchery By The Castle with its opulent suites took the 27th place.
So, here you have it: the best hotels in the UK are actually in Edinburgh!
