The 101 Dalmatians Musical is currently on a huge UK tour, with only three cities left until January 2025. Currently in Edinburgh, the family-friendly show boasts singing animals, heart-clenching moments and, that’s right, a REAL Dalmatian puppy.
The 101 Dalmatians Musical has graced the Edinburgh Playhouse from November 20 until November 23. The new production is written by Johnny McKnight, with music from Douglas Hodge and adapted to stage Zinnie Harris. The musical was “reimagined from the acclaimed Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production in 2022”.
101 Dalmatians is a classic story based on Dodie Smith’s book following protagonists Perdi and Pongo and their owners, as they try to save puppies from being turned into a coat by Cruella De Vil. With themes of family, searching for a home and battling animal cruelty, the show boasts a heartwarming tale of finding love and belonging while standing up for what is right. While there is only one real Dalmatian puppy that appears on stage towards the end, the impressively crafted puppets and their puppeteers make the production come to life.
Audiences become immersed in the story from the very beginning, with audible gasps and “no’s” heard throughout as the story with Cruella De Vil unfolds. Plus, let’s give a shout-out to the costume department led by Sarah Mercadé, as the antagonist wore some seriously noteworthy gowns and outfits.
Overall, the musical presented an abundance of hilarious, heart-wrenching and wholesome moments, proving to be a hit among both children and adults.
The 101 Dalmatians Musical UK tour has been gracing Birmingham, Norwich, Canterbury, Leicester, Manchester, Belfast, Wolverhampton, Newcastle, Southend, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Woking, Cardiff, Southampton, Aberdeen, York, Glasgow and Edinburgh before coming to London for the summer.
