Well, it’s that time again, as we brace for the new ‘Celebrity Traitors’ season that kicks off today (October 1), preparing to capture the UK’s full attention for the foreseeable future. Season 2 will see stars like James Blunt, James Acaster, Maya Jama and Sharon Rooney checking in to Claudia Winkleman’s reign, surrounded by the ancient beauty of the Scottish Highlands at Ardross Castle.
Where is ‘Celebrity Traitors’ filmed?
The iconic castle serving as the backdrop for the show is Ardross Castle, nestled north of Inverness. Reflecting on the location, Claudia Winkleman has previously shared with House Beautiful, saying: “I thought I’d seen beautiful places, but I’ve honestly never been anywhere more stunning than the Scottish Highlands. At times, without sounding too cheesy, it truly felt like being inside a painting.”

Featuring Scottish Baronial architecture with turreted towers and ornate stonework, the castle has a dramatic, gothic atmosphere that perfectly sets the tone for the hit BBC series. Plus, it serves as the setting for both the UK and US editions.
A brief history of Ardross Castle
Ardross Castle boasts a colourful history, having passed through many hands and undergone numerous revamps over the years. Originally purchased by the Duke of Sutherland in the 1700s, the estate was later bought by Sir Alexander Matheson in 1845 for £90,000.
In 1898, businessman C. W. Dyson Perrins snapped up the property. His family used Ardross as a seasonal getaway for house parties and outdoor country pursuits, extending the grounds, installing electricity, and adding a formal garden designed by landscape architect Edward White. Now that’s what we call a holiday home!
The estate was broken up and sold again in 1937 to Mr and Mrs Austin Mardon, who resided there until 1983. It was then purchased by the McTaggart family, who kicked off extensive restoration work to return the grand building and its surrounding gardens to their former glory.

Fast forward to today, and the castle is packed with seriously opulent interiors. Highlights include the plush billiard room and spacious breakfast room (both staple locations on ‘The Traitors’), multiple grand drawing rooms and lounges, plus a collection of stunning bedrooms. And, let’s face it – one of these bedrooms is probably bigger than my entire flat.
Can you stay at Ardross Castle?
The short answer is yes – but only if you’re getting married or have pre-booked a group trip. The castle is not open to single stays, but there are plenty of lovely spots nearby for a regal stay, such as the Tolloch Castle Hotel.
What is more, the ‘Traitors’ cast doesn’t actually stay in the castle either, but in a nearby hotel, even though it might appear otherwise in the show!
