Ever wondered if there is a place outside your home where you can have your pasta just how you like it? Well, a magical spot in central Edinburgh called Vapiano can make all your pizza and pasta dreams come true. The restaurant could be considered a haven for fussy eaters, with pizza and pasta being handmade daily.
Vapiano is located right next to St Andrew Square on South St David Street, so it’s the most convenient place to grab a bite to eat right after getting off the airport bus or some shopping at Tk Maxx. The restaurant doesn’t take any bookings, so guests are welcome to pop by whenever they start feeling peckish.
The personalisation of pizza and pasta concept is now a worldwide phenomenon: Vapiano has opened restaurants in a multitude of countries over the years. Everything started in Germany twenty years ago, and the concept has been growing ever since.
With personalisation and freshness at its core, Vapiano has become a quick hit with its homemade pasta and pizza dough. The restaurant also makes its own dressings, sauces and desserts fresh every day, so the freshness is notable in every dish. The menu is simple and straightforward, with vegetarian, vegan and some gluten-free options.
The menu suggestions are a great starting point and can be just left as is or customised as required. To start off your dining experience, go for the Bruschetta Mozzarella with two pieces of toasted ciabatta bread, buffalo mozzarella, basil pesto, marinated tomatoes, garlic and basil, topped with rocket. Nothing much is needed to be changed here and is the perfect balance of flavours.
Next, it’s time for the main event: here is where you will truly customise your own meal. Choose the shape of your pasta from fusilli, spaghetti, penne, campanelle, linguini, tagliatelle or spelt fusilli. And for the gluten-free and vegan option, the courgette zoodles are there to save the day. We went for the Filetto di Manzo e Rucola with beef fillet, rosemary, mushrooms, zucchini, carrots, balsamic onions, white wine, rocket and spring onion topped with parmesan and it just hit the spot. The portions are also more than generous, so it’s probably best to skip lunch that day.
And for the final course, the homemade tiramisu served in a glass is just the right size and just melts in the mouth. To pair with the drool-worthy meals, guests can opt for some cocktails or wine. If cocktails sound more like it, Vapiano’s Strawberry Bellini is the one to watch out for.
Vapiano is a place where all your pasta-related dreams come true and it’s safe to say the pasta-bilities are endless.
