Just in time for spooky season, TripAdvisor has released its list of the most haunted hotels in the world. Filled with stories from guests, the list revealed secrets forgotten by time, only heard by the echoes of those who are no longer with us. Or are they?
Located three and a half hours from Glasgow, in Dingwall, just past Inverness, Tulloch Castle Hotel is a 12-century castle which was a private property for most of its existence. What is more, the building served as a hospital treating those wounded during Dunkirk before being turned into a student hostel. And since 1996, the castle has served as a hotel boasting 22 bedrooms, welcoming guests for a stay in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

The castle retains many of its original features, such as the ancient Dungeon, stained glass windows, its staircase, the panelled Great Hall, as well as a secret tunnel from the basement going all the way to the ancient Dingwall Castle in town. What is more, some areas of the hotel are restricted to guests, only open for ghost tours.
The ghosts of Tulloch Castle Hotel
What is more, the bar at Tulloch Castle Hotel is named after the spirit that is known to haunt its rooms, The Green Lady. Guests have reported hearing whispering in their ear at night, a creepy feeling, the shower turning itself on, the lights turning themselves on, as well as screaming outside their door.

One traveller said in their review on TripAdvisor: “My boyfriend and I stayed in Room 15, one of the haunted rooms, and I will never forget the first night we stayed there. Ask Rodney about this room when you’re on the [ghost] tour. Long story short I woke up in a sweat with my heart beating and 10 mins later my bf and I hear someone trying to get into our room not 5 mins later we hear it again.
Then as I’m trying to go to sleep I hear an older man saying “HEY” and after that a woman whispering names in my ear. I am a little bias as I am a Davidson but I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for memories that will stay with you forever and five-star customer service that will make you feel at home during your stay.”

Another reviewer wrote: “I slept perfectly fine, but my husband was bothered all night with noises and other creepy feelings.”
A third person said: “Our room did not have a spooky feel, although things went a bit pear-shaped when the lights were out and our shower turned on itself in the middle of the night!”
So, there you have it – one of the most haunted hotels in the world is right on our doorstep here in Scotland – but would you dare to stay at the Tulloch Castle Hotel this Halloween? Particularly, in rooms 8 or 15?
