Not sure what things to do in Edinburgh this weekend? Well, whatever the weather’s like, and whatever you’re in the mood for, we’ve always got your back here at Secret Edinburgh. You can explore illuminated after-dark trails, get your hands on a free mince pie at a Christmas market, sip some delectable cocktails and more – your weekend plans, sorted.
1. Kick off the Christmas celebrations with a magical light trail

Filled with larger-than-life light installations, Christmas at the Botanicals is a magical way to immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit. Embark on this breathtaking trail filled with twinkling lights and accompanied by festive music. Along the way, there are also plenty of food and drink stalls to warm up with as you explore. The event is running from November 20 through December 30 at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Read more.
2. Bag a free mince pie from the Morrisons Christmas market stall
Take a break from Christmas shopping with free The Best Signature Mince Pies from the Morrisons Christmas market stall. Popping up on Princes Street from November 19-23 between 11am and 7pm, they’ll be giving you a first taste of the delicious festive treats, which won’t be available in stores until December 1. Be sure to get down nice and early, as there is limited stock. These award-winning mince pies are made up of melt-in-the-mouth brown butter pastry, encasing a fruity mincemeat laced with brandy and warming spices – all finished with a sweet dusting. Utterly delicious!
3. Purchase some new artwork while supporting a great cause

The Edinburgh Macmillan Art Show is a great chance to purchase affordable art, while also donating to the Macmillan Cancer Support. The show welcomes artists from all over Scotland, encouraging both established and new names to take part. For each piece of art sold, at least half of the funds go to the charity. This year, 160 local artists are taking part with over 250 artworks for sale. This year, the show will take place from 10am to 4pm on November 22-23 at The Cornerstone Centre in St John’s Church. See more information.
4. Find one of these Golden SIM Cards hidden across Edinburgh to win epic prizes
This November, we’ve partnered with Tesco Mobile to give you the chance to win some epic prizes in the Golden SIM Hunt. If you’re lucky enough to find one of these shiny Golden SIM Cards hidden throughout Edinburgh, all you have to do is scan the QR code to redeem your prize. From new Apple iPhone 17s to Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus’, gift cards and more. This might just be your brightest Black Friday yet – but best be quick, the hunt ends on December 1, 2025!
5. Embark on an illuminated night trail at Edinburgh Castle

For the sixth year in a row, Castle of Light is returning to Edinburgh Castle for the UK’s largest annual projection show. After the sun sets, head here for a spectacular night – featuring incredible projections and installations, all set to the backdrop of some dazzling displays. This is the ideal night out for all ages, with shows running from Friday to Sunday between 4pm and 9pm (last entry is between 7.30-7.45pm). Of course, it wouldn’t be a festive night out without some delicious treats. Enjoy toasted marshmallows from the fire pit alongside plenty of street food vendors to keep you well fuelled. 6. Try the new cocktail menu at Bar Prince

Bar Prince, located within The Balmoral Hotel on Princes Street, has recently launched a new menu, which is perfect for a weekend brunch, as well as evening cocktails.
Try The Balmoral Burger – one of our favourite burgers in Edinburgh – while you enjoy cocktails that are a work of art in and of themselves! The About Last Night, with Bombay Bramble Gin, Brockmans Gin, Maraschino, Cherry, Raspberry and Champagne is truly delectable. La Dolce Vita was also a standout, with Bombay Sapphire Gin, Lillet Blanc, Isolabella Limoncello, Basil, Elderflower and Lavender Bitters. For a warm atmosphere and affordable prices, this is the perfect spot for a taste of opulence that doesn’t break the bank.
