Over the last seven years, The Pitt market was our solace in Leith: it was where we went for some live music, a few beers, and a relaxed atmosphere, as well as a good ol’ catch-up with pals. It has become increasingly more popular amongst Leith locals and Edinburgers from further afield. However, the time has come for the site that The Pitt is on to be, unsurprisingly, turned into flats.
Not to panic though, the unique venue plans to go out with a bang. With only two weekends, four events and eight evenings left before The Pitt closes until opening its Granton site in Spring 2023, food-lovers are invited to party like there’s no tomorrow. The four events include Fringe acts at The Leith Social presented by The Gilded Balloon: the shows consist of various acts such as Seayonce, Aurie Styla and Oasissy. The performers differ in every show, so you can go to all of them and grab a bite to eat while you’re at it.
Moreover, for the two remaining Fridays, Edinburgh’s queer cabaret Fruit Salad will be setting the stage on fire with glitter. A drag show that is also burlesque but comedy with some singing in the mix. So, get your dancing shoes on and prepare to leave with glitter in the weirdest of places.
For those who are ready for a final feast, The Buffalo Truck still has its famous Buffalo Burger with blue cheese. Barnacle & Bones are also ready to welcome diners with the ever-so-popular Juicy Steak on Fries with Gremolata or support small local businesses at SPOT, the speciality dessert café. There is also a wide selection of local, small and craft beers as well as foreign wines for visitors to indulge in.
As for the new site in Granton, the space is set to have a 750-capacity independent venue for a myriad of events, and plan on supporting the local community by providing apprenticeships and work experience placement for Edinburgh’s youth. What is more, 50% of stalls will be dedicated to start-ups, with priority given to people of marginalised groups. So, there has never been a time to have fun with a clean conscience.
