Harry Potter fans, rejoice! The best Harry Potter shop in the UK is right on our doorstep, offering a magical day out. Not only can you find some magical things from independent businesses, but you can also attend a potion-making workshop at The Lonely Broomstick. Plus, the shop is home to the original Handmade Scottish Ghosts, which visitors can take home.
The Lonely Broomstick is located on Falkirk High Street, just an hour’s drive from Edinburgh. Whimsic Alley is also owned by the same people, bringing spells, crystals and all things witchy for those who love all things whimsical and magical. A visitor attraction in and of itself, The Lonely Broomstick enchants all those who walk in, filled with everything you can imagine and much more!
When we first walked in, we realised we would spend quite a bit of time in the shop just browsing, with the sheer amount of actually nice and unique items there. From wizard wands to the original Scottish Ghosts, the shop doesn’t feel gimmicky, and it’s because the owners make sure to stock it with unique pieces from independent businesses around the globe. And yes, they make their own candles, soaps and sweets, too!
The time and effort put into the space is evident – but due to its popularity, The Lonely Broomstick is bringing both shops under one massive roof. The idea is to make it feel like a magical cobblestone market alley, which should provide plenty of Instagrammable moments. Guests will be able to explore a sweet shop, a “smelly” shop, a creature adoption shop, a Whimsical shop with all things witchy, a magical library, and a magical essentials shop.
What is more, the new store includes a sit-in cafe, where visitors can finally grab a seat and watch the world go by, instead of just getting drinks to takeaway. There, guests can indulge in The Lonely Broomstick’s Hot Buttery Beer, Chocolate Frog Chocolate, cakes and more – expect a magical tavern vibe!
And that’s not all – there will also be a dungeon downstairs, embracing the darker side. Expect shops like an apothecary, Dark Arts, a secret shop (yet to be announced), the Scottish Ghost Emporium, and, of course, their famous Potion Room. Plus, the owners are creating an escape room!
On their Instagram post, the owners announced on October 19: “✨The renovations of our new magical shop continue, and we’re getting closer to revealing our official opening date!✨
When we say this might be the hardest project our team has ever taken on, we really mean it. Blood, sweat, and quite literally tears have gone into bringing this magical world to life!
There have been long days, late nights, plenty of challenges, and more bruises than we can count (let’s just say we’ve had a few disagreements with some plasterboard and pieces of wood… and they usually win!).
But despite it all, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Every little detail, every wonky wall, and every magical corner is being created by our team with so much love & determination.
We’re putting everything we have into making this place as special as it can possibly be, and we genuinely cannot wait to welcome you all through our doors to experience the magic we’ve been working so hard to create.

The new Lonely Broomstick shop aims to open before Christmas this year, and it will be located just around the corner from the current shop. The other shops are still open in the meantime, located on Falkirk High Street. You can find out more on their website.
