Crowds of people will be flocking to the Scottish capital this August to witness one of the biggest cultural festivals in the world, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. While spectators and performers from all around the world will be flying into Edinburgh, plenty of Scots will also be enjoying the festivities, travelling to different cities across the country. Thankfully, ScotRail is officially bringing on a significant number of extra late-night trains during the Edinburgh Fringe to assist with helping people get home without difficulty.
The festival runs between August 4 and 28, welcoming comedy, theatre, art, music and so much more to the city with a total of 3,013 different shows to see. The passenger number are set to significantly increase during the month, so extra services are vital to keep up with the demand from the Scottish capital.
The extra late-night trains will run on a number of routes during the Edinburgh Fringe: Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Queen Street via Falkirk High will run between August 4 and 27, while on Fridays between August 5 and 27 will see late-night trains to Glasgow Queen Street via Bathgate and Airdrie, Dundee, Glenrothes with Thornton, and North Berwick.
Saturdays between August 5 and 26 will operate services to Dundee, as well as to Glasgow Queen Street Low Level via Bathgate and Airdrie.
What is more, to further support Fringe By The Sea in North Berwick, extra services will take place from Edinburgh between August 4 and 13. Sundays between August 6 and 27 will also see extra late-night trains to North Berwick.
As always, traveller are encouraged to book their tickets in advance to avoid any disappointment. David Simpson, ScotRail service delivery director, said: “ScotRail is excited to play its part in making the Edinburgh Festivals a success, and we look forward to welcoming all visitors to the capital city aboard our trains.”
“To support the event, we’ve made significant enhancements to our services. We’ll be providing more trains, including late-night services, to accommodate the increased demand during this vibrant period and we’ve added tens of thousands of extra seats at the times when they are needed the most.”
“Our service will be busy throughout the festivals, so customers should plan their journeys in advance. To make your travel experience as smooth as possible, I’d encourage everyone to purchase their train tickets before boarding. The mTicket system, available on the ScotRail app, offers a convenient way to secure your tickets and download them straight to your mobile phone, avoiding any unnecessary queues on the day.”
