Okay, so there’s going to be a giant Irn-Bru billboard on Castle Street this weekend (October 21 – 23) that will be giving out free cans of juice. The nation’s favourite soft drink will be up for grabs, but there’s a catch: the billboard is dedicated to the new version of Irn-Bru, XTRA. The new variant is sugar-free, and while there has been a lot of conflict due to the sugar amounts in the ginger drink, it’s still worth a try: after all, it’s free.
And there’s more – as fizzy juice lovers empty the billboard of the cans, a ‘funny quip’ is set to be revealed. If anyone’s wondering what a quip is, it is a saying or a remark, so we will get to judge Irn-Bru’s sense of humour by Sunday.
A number of prizes will also be given, so if a confetti cannon goes off when you’re picking up your can, it means you won. The prizes could include Irn-Bru merch and even tickets to go see Kendrick Lamar at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.
So head into town anytime between 11am on Friday, October 21 and 6pm on Sunday, October 23 to claim a free can and maybe even win concert tickets. The billboard is also set to travel around Scotland, with Glasgow having had it last weekend, Dundee and Aberdeen being a few stops throughout October.
Commenting on the pop-up, Adrian Troy, Marketing Director at A.G. Barr, said: “IRN-BRU XTRA allows BRU fans to get extra taste with no sugar – it’s a real win/win scenario!
“We wanted to bring this ‘win/win’ element to life, so what better way to do this than with a massive billboard giving away free cans and amazing prizes! Get yourself along to the billboard to pick up a can of XTRA and you might just win some gig tickets!”
