Funfair games, cocktails and catch-ups with your mates sound like a pretty good set-up and we recommend you don’t wait too long to make it a reality… So, without further ado, let’s get straight into Fayre Play. Nope, that’s not a euphemism, that’s genuinely the name of the place: the imaginatively-titled Fayre Play is a Glasgow export that’s set up a pop-up venue in our fair city. With nine games and cocktails aplenty, it’s an excellent reminder that you should never skip Fayre Play.
Anyway, all euphemisms aside, Fayre Play is the surest route to a banging night of fun (ok fine, one more). As with the Glasgow original, the course here takes inspiration from old-school funfairs with all the classic games, starting with Skee-Baw with its roll-up ramp. On your way around, hook a duck, play Slam Dunk and let your anger out by hitting the little critters at Cannae Whack It.
Once you’ve successfully vanquished both friend and foe alike, you’ll want to adjourn to the cocktail bar for victory drinks. It’s hard to look past the tropical-inspired Putter’s Paradise, the Long Iron Iced Tea, and the truly tempting Match-Play Margarita: a frozen marg topped off with Haribo. Edinburgh Lager and Thistly Cross Cider are available on tap, and there’s a strong line-up of mocktails for anyone staying off the booze.
The adult funfair haven also boasts a decent beer garden with plenty of board games available for some more competitive fun. A round of Cards Against Humanity will not only make you giggle with friends, but could also be the perfect icebreaker for making new ones, or, like in some cases, joining in on someone’s stag do.
Gourmet burger and dog heroes Scran Daddy are in charge of the food at Fayre Play, and there’s almost no way to go wrong with your orders. But, if we’re getting them in early, I’ll take The Pedro (crispy panko chicken, katsu mayo, coleslaw, lettuce and tomato) and a side of Garlic Fries, please.
Whatever the occasion, a game of boozy games is always a good idea. All in all, there’s only one conclusion here: satisfaction is guaranteed through Fayre Play!
