While Fat Hippo already has a food spot at St James Quarter’s Lane 7, where the independent burger brand does not offer its full menu in Edinburgh. And now, George Street has become the new home to Fat Hippo in Edinburgh, welcoming burger lovers to try out the menu in full glory. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait anymore, as the burger joint opened its doors today (July 7).
Fat Hippo is an independent burger restaurant group specialising in juicy burgers and dirty fries. The brand was founded in 2010 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, now Fat Hippo has become popular all over the UK, being recognised for its quirky flavours and combinations.
When you visit one of Fat Hippo’s joints, it is all about expecting to get the food all over your face, so don’t wear anything too fancy. The signature beef and boneless buttermilk chicken patties come with free hand-cut chips, with a range of vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options available. Plus, you always get fries included with your burger, and there’s a build-your-own kids menu for the fussier eaters.
The aforementioned quirkier combinations are also a noteworthy mention. For example, Fat Hippo did a collab with Projext X, famous for their mega giant doughnuts and viral videos, and came up with the perfect pairing, a Simpsons-inspired doughnut burger, The Big D’oh! The doughnut burger comes with a Homer doughnut with pink icing and sprinkles, Fat Hippo’s signature brined, double-fried, boneless, buttermilk chicken seasoned with chilli and lime, smoked bacon, blueberry jello and herby cream cheese. WHAT!
Guests can also look forward to enjoying the group’s beloved signature sauce on their signature burger the ‘Fat Hippo’ – a double beef burger topped with American cheese, smoked bacon, chorizo, onion rings and Fat Hippo sauce. Bookings are already open for the Fat Hippo Edinburgh branch, so we’ll see you there!
Michael Phillips, Managing Director and founder of Fat Hippo said: “Location is key to the success of new restaurants, research and great planning from our team allows us to continue to expand across the UK, ensuring we maintain our top quality food and high standards of service.”
“There’s been so much buzz around our expansion, with messages flooding our social media team from followers asking when we will be opening in their cities, it’s always just a matter of finding the right location!”
