Food festivals bring that childlike wonder, by trying out new foods or eating something straight out of childhood that brings back fuzzy memories. Whether it’s those special pancakes with homemade jam your mum used to make, or that special treat you would only ever be allowed at your grandparent’s house, food is one of the most powerful ways to invoke strong memories, making us feel a little sentimental. Well, you can now experience all that and more at the Edinburgh Foodies Festival this weekend, taking place between August 4 and 6.
Edinburgh Foodies Festival is setting up on the vast grounds of Inverleith Park in Stockbridge, inviting food lovers to try out dishes from around the world. What is more, visitors can expect plenty of drinks options, live music and appearances from top Michelin-starred chefs and local chefs, some having appeared on the TV show MasterChef, as well as Great British Menu winners.
Guests can expect to see National Chef of Scotland and MasterChef: The Professionals champion Gary Maclean, chef-patron from Creel Caught in Edinburgh, Scotland’s best-selling author, baker and TikTok sensation, Coinneach MacLeod aka The Hebridean Baker, celebrity TV chef and star of Great British Menu, Jimmy Lee, from Hong Kong Steet food brand Salt and Chilli Oriental and many more celebrity and local chef appearances. Visitors can find their favourite chefs at the La Española Chefs Theatre, explore baked goods at the Cake & Bake Theatre and indulge in some drinks masterclasses at the Drinks Theatre.
Gary Maclean, said: “I am thrilled to be returning to Foodies Festival in Edinburgh, where I will be showcasing some amazing Scottish produce. My aim is to share my passion for cooking and to also have a little fun with food during my cookery demonstration. I’m also looking forward to watching my fellow demo chefs and picking up a few tips.”
Guests can explore street food from around the world at the Street Food Avenue, and shop for some gourmet and artisan food and drink, such as local flavoured ethically-sourced honey from BeeHype at the Shopping Village. Moreover, music lovers will be able to enjoy live music from local performers on stage all weekend.
August 4 will see cocktails, drag shows and cabaret with a live ABBA tribute, while our very own Calum Bowie will perform on Saturday, August 5. Another Edinburgh-born singer-songwriter Callum Beattie will take to the stage on Sunday, August 6, entertaining foodies with his catchy songs. All days will also see showcases from an array of entertaining Edinburgh Fringe acts.
