It is no secret Edinburgh is a popular destination for both travellers, and lost souls looking for a place to call home. And now, it has officially been voted the best city in the world by TimeOut magazine. Known for its vibrant cultural scene, Harry Potter, and its mystical vistas, Edinburgh has deservingly reaped worldwide recognition in 2022.
Thousands of locals worldwide were quizzed on their respective cities, measuring things such as the quality of life, the food and drink scene, arts and culture, sustainability, safety, and even walkability. Basically, city-dwellers have spilt the tea on what the neighbours are like, the annoying parts of the city, and the best places to visit tourists wouldn’t know.
As much as we Edinburgers like to complain about the ongoing tram works (which we must endure until 2023, by the way), the city has many things to be proud of. After all, where else in Europe can you climb an inactive volcano in the city centre? On top of breath-taking scenery, landmarks and architecture, Edinburgh has scored high on walkability, and the constantly evolving food and drink scene. Not only can you have a delicious meal of pretty much any cuisine you can think of, but you also do not need to Uber to the next spot for drinks.
Known as the land of the first skyscrapers in the world, Edinburgh is an easy choice for anyone looking for a noteworthy city break. Whether you’re looking for a chilled evening by the sea in Newhaven eating some fresh oysters at The Fishmarket, or are after something a bit more lively up at The Jam House in the city centre, there is something for everyone.
Overall, 95% of residents thought Edinburgh is beautiful, and 93% deemed it walkable. So, admire the views with a full belly of delicious scran, while walking to your next bar, where you will continue to admire more views. Definitely a combo deserving of the title of ‘Best City in the World’ in our eyes.
