Some of the most iconic musical songs of the last decade have arrived on the city’s live stage, with ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ gracing the theatre scene on its UK tour.
Featuring a stellar cast, ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ is playing at the Edinburgh Playhouse between July 1 and 5, as the last stop on its UK tour. The musical has also earned an insane amount of awards, such as the Tony® Award for Best Musical, Olivier Award for Best New Musical and the Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.
‘Dear Evan Hansen’ Tells a heartwarming tale of an anxious and introverted High School student who desperately wants to fit in. In Evan’s bid to connect with his peers, he ends up in a web of lies he cannot get out of. Exploring themes of mental health, suicide and human connection, the show is based on a book by Steven Levenson and directed by Adam Penford, with music written by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul.
Spectators can expect a Scottish leading duo, with Ryan Kopel (Newsies) playing the iconic role of Evan Hansen, and Lauren Conroy (Into The Woods) as Zoe Murphy.
They will be joined by Alice Fearn (Wicked, Come From Away) as Evan’s mum, Heidi, Helen Anker (Mamma Mia!) as Cynthia Murphy, Richard Hurst (The Lion King) as Larry Murphy, Killian Thomas Lefevre (Bat Out Of Hell) as Connor Murphy, Tom Dickerson (Heathers) as Jared Kleinman, Vivian Panka (9 to 5 the Musical) as Alana Beck and Sonny Monaghan (discovered via TikTok) as alternate Evan.
Director Adam Penford said: “I am beyond thrilled with the talented cast we have assembled. An exciting mix of musical theatre legends and rising stars. It’s been nine years since the original show premiered, and it’s an honour to be the first production to reimagine this powerful story through a contemporary lens.”
