Imagine having a nice day, driving to your destination using Google Maps, thinking at least you won’t get lost. The next thing you know, your car is stuck on (very small) a flight of stairs. The feeling of betrayal must be real, especially for those who drive higher vehicles and are not able to see the bottom as well. Well, four cars have now gotten stuck on the steps on Greenside Lane today (February 5) due to a Google Maps navigation error, with the latest being a van.
Today (February 5) was the fateful day a van driver found themselves in quite the predicament at around 11:30am by getting stuck on the stairs next to the Theatre Royal Bar. Apparantly, Google Maps is leading drivers through the cycle lane and down the steps on Greenside Lane. Well, that’s awkward.
In previous events, a spokesperson on Google advised users that the issue has been “fixed”, with the instructions for drivers now starting to go up Leith Street and onto Greenside Row which then leads to Greenside Lane.
However, it seems today was the fourth vehicle to get stuck on the stairs, leaving passers-by stunned. On December 13, 2023, an SUV got stuck on the staircase which was then quickly taken to social media by onlookers. Another car before that got stuck on December 6, 2023. The third “victim” was a lorry on January 18, finding themselves in a bit of a predicament.
