It is officially acceptable to start counting down to August. Assembly is bringing back acts from around the world to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe this year. Visitors can expect a line-up of theatre, comedy, children’s shows, circus, and cabaret with lots more to come with Assembly Festival this summer.
Today (February 15) Assembly Festival announced a bunch of shows for its 2024 Edinburgh Fringe programme between July 31 and August 26. Beloved acts like Dear Billy, A Love Letter to the Big Yin, Susie McCabe, Jason Byrne, Rob Auton and The Black Blues Brothers are just some of the highlights to get excited about.
First up is the comeback of the National Theatre of Scotland’s Dear Billy, A Love Letter to the Big Yin. Gary McNair is the writer and performer, while Joe Douglas is the director, bringing the critically acclaimed celebration of Billy Connolly.
Susie McCabe, also known as “Scotland’s funniest woman”, according to The Scotsman, returning with a banger of a show – Merchant of Menace – just after her very own BBC Scotland stand-up special.
Rob Auton is another noteworthy performer, and was named “a genuine original” is coming back after a “critically acclaimed sellout season” in the last Edinburgh Fringe with his new show The Eyes Open and Shut Show.
The Black Blues Brothers are doing their farewell season at Assembly Festival, as five acrobats perform their comedy tribute to the cult movie The Blues Brothers in a celebration which is set to bring together the culture of Africa with R&B sound.
Best of Burlesque: 10 Years of Tease is the longest-running burlesque show at the Fringe, returning for yet another year. With changing acts every few nights, guests can expect a celebration of bodies, tradition, acceptance and inclusivity.
