Well, I’m back again with some more severe weather news for Edinburgh… And now, Storm Boelo has warranted an Amber Weather Warning from the Met Office, affecting Edinburgh as well as the rest of Scotland. I hope you don’t have any plans to go out this weekend, because it’s gonna be a windy one.
When is the Amber Weather Warning for wind taking effect?
The Met Office has issued an Amber Weather Warning for wind during Storm Boelo in Edinburgh between 9pm on Saturday, October 24 and 9pm on Sunday, October 25.
Locals and visitors alike are advised to stay inside where possible, and avoid taking walks due to “danger to life” from flying debris. Power cuts may also be the reality for some, and mobile phone coverage could be limited.
What is more, expect cancelled rail, road, air and ferry services, and travel should be avoided unless completely necessary. Road and bridge closures are also expected.
And those in coastal areas are warned of “danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties”.

The Met Office said: “Very strong westerly winds associated with Storm Boelo are expected with fairly widespread gusts of 60 to 70 mph and gusts to 80 mph in exposed coastal areas. The strongest winds will initially affect western Scotland and far north of Northern Ireland on Saturday evening and then spread eastwards overnight and through Sunday. High winds will be accompanied by periods of heavy rain and frequent showers.
Whilst high winds are expected across a wider area with a yellow warning in force, there is a higher confidence in impacts and disruption taking place within this amber warning area. The winds will gradually ease from the west through Sunday.”
